I’m Riad Benguella, a software engineer at Automattic and one of the lead engineers behind the WordPress block editor (Gutenberg). I’ve spent the last several years helping reshape how people create content on the web — from the earliest days of Gutenberg to full site editing, global styles, and the site editor.
More recently I’ve been focused on the intersection of AI and WordPress tooling — I architected WordPress Studio Code, an agentic coding experience built into WordPress Studio that lets you build entire sites with Claude and MCP tools.
Outside of work I write occasionally on this blog about WordPress architecture, open source, and web development. I’ve spoken at WordCamp Asia, WordCamp Europe, and a handful of other events.
I live between Oran, Algeria and Alicante, Spain.
